Passage: Amasano mu migabane y’ingenzi y’igihe 'Relationships within the main units of time'

This passage is about relationships which exist within the main units of time people use in their day-to-day life. For example when we make appointments or certain schedules for various events and commitments we take into account the units of time such as: hour,  day, date, month, and year. The watch and calendar are the most useful tools we use to related to the aforesaid units of time.

Passage

Mwarimu:  Umwaka urimo amezi angahe?

Gasana:  Urimo amezi cumi n’abiri.

Mwarimu:  Ukwezi se kurimo iminsi ingahe?

Gasana:  Kurimo iminsi mirongwitatu cyangwa mirongwitatu n’umwe.

Mwarimu:  Ukwezi kwa kabiri kugira iminsi ingana n’andi mezi?

Gasana:  Oya, kugira iminsi makumyabiri n’umunani cyangwa makumyabiri n’icyenda

Mwarimu:  Icyumweru kirimo iminsi ingahe?

Gasana:  Kirimo iminsi irindwi

Mwarimu:  Umwaka urimo ibihembwe bingahe?

Gasana: Urimo ibihembwe bine.

Mwarimu: Umunsi urimo amasaha angahe?

Gasana:  Urimo amasaha cumi n’abiri mu Kinyarwanda.

Mwarimu: Isaha irimo iminota ingahe?

Gasana: Irimo iminota mirongwitandatu.

Passage Translation

Teacher: How many months are in a year?

Gasana : There are twelve months.

Teacher: How many days are in a month?

Gasana: There are thirty or thirty one days.

Teacher: Does February have the same number of days like other months?

Gasana: No, it has twenty eight or twenty nine days.

Teacher: How many days are in a week?

Gasana: There are seven days.

Teacher: How many quarters are in a year?

Gasana: There are four quarters.

Teacher: How many hours are in a day?

Gasana: There are twelve hours in a day (Rwanda system).

Teacher: How many minutes are there in an hour?

Gasana: There are sixty minutes.
