Summary: Guciririkanya no guhaha (Negotiation and shopping)

Buying and selling products in a Rwandan context is a process which requires patience of the seller who would be engaged in a negotiation discussion on the price of every item with each individual buyer. This unit deals with key issues a learner needs to know. For example, asking for a price, proposing a counter offer, buying the product and asking for change  (if this is the case). This section addresses the types of products expected to be available in a local market. For example, the kinds of ‘amata’ (milk), the kinds of ‘umutobe’ (jus), the kinds of ‘inzoga’ (beer), the kinds of ‘inyama’ (meat), etc. The dialogue will help to understand the buying/selling negotiation process.
