Passage: Kubara mu Kinyarwanda

This passage is set to introduce the topic of this unit which is about counting and numbering. It will be done in a form of a conversation between Mwarimu and abanyeshuri

Passage

Ubungubu tugiye kubara ibintu biri muri iri shuri ryacu dukurikije amoko yabyo. Reka tubanze dushyire ku rutonde amoko y'ibintu n'abantu tugiye kubara. Ubwa mbere turabara abantu bari hano. Ubwa kabiri turabara intebe zose n'ameza. Ubwa gatatu tubare amatara yose. Ubwa kane tubare inzugi n'amadirishya. Ubwa gatanu tubare ibitabo byose. Ubwa nyuma, tubare za mudasobwa dufite hano. Dore uko tugiye kubikora. Ndajya mbabaza kumbwira umubare wa buri bwoko, namwe mumbwire umubumbe wa byo. Reka dutangire.

Mwarimu: Hari abantu bangahe muri iri shuri? Harimo abahungu hangahe n’abakobwa bangahe?

Abanyeshuri: Muri iri shuri, hari abantu cumi n’umwe. Abahungu ni bane, abakobwa ni barindwi.

Mwarimu: Mu ishuri harimo intebe zingahe n’ameza angahe?

Abanyeshuri: Mu ishuri harimo intebe makumyabiri n’ameza ane.

Mwarimu: Mu ishuri harimo amatara angahe?

Abanyeshuri: Mu ishuri harimo amatara munani.

Mwarimu: Iri shuri rifite inzugi zingahe n’amadirishya angahe?

Abanyeshuri: Iri shuri rifite inzugi ebyiri n’amadirishya atandatu

Mwarimu: Ibitabo biri ku meza ni bingahe?

Abanyeshuri: Ibitabo biri ku meza ni icumi.

Mwarimu: Ni mudasobwa zingahe ziri muri iri ishuri?

Abanyeshuri: Hano mu ishuri hari mudasobwa cyenda.

Mwarimu: Dukuyemo intebe munani hasigara zingahe?

Abanyeshuri: Hasigara intebe cumi n’ebyiri.

Mwarimu: Mudasobwa ziri hano tuzongeyeho enye zaba zingahe?

Abanyeshuri: Zaba cumi n’eshatu.

Passage Translation

Right now, we are going to count the items which are in our class based on their kinds. Let’s first make a list of the types of items and people we’re going to count. Firstly, we are going to count people who are here. Secondly, we’ll count all chairs and tables. Thirdly, we’ll count all the lights. Fourthly, we’ll count doors and windows. Lastly, we’ll count the computers we have here. We are going to do it in the form of a conversation. Let’s start.

Teacher: How many people are in this class? How many boys and girls are there?

Students: There are eleven people in this class. There are four boys and seven girls.

Teacher: How many chairs and tables are in the class?

Students: There are twenty chairs and four tables in the class.

Teacher: How many lights are in the class?

Students: There are eight lights in the class.

Teacher: How many doors and windows does this class have?

Students: This class has two doors and six windows.

Teacher: How many books are on the table?

Students: Tere are ten books on the table.

Teacher: How many computers are in this class?

Students: There are nine computers in this class.

Teacher: If we take out eight chairs, how many will remain?

Students: There will be twelve chairs remaining.

Teacher: If we add four more computers, how many would there be?

Students: There would be fifteen computers.
