Passage: Ibikoresho byo mu nzu n'amasano.

The passage is made of two major sections:

1. The 1st section consists of the house and house objects which are the basic needs of the family. As we know human beings need  a shelter, furniture, food and drinks, clothing and social security. Mugisha story will be an introduction to the topic of this unit.

2. In the 2nd section we have the illustration of family relationships established by Bwenge in his monologe.

Passage

Mugisha arereka insuti ze inzu ye nshya.

Muraho mwese? Ndabashimye cyane kuko mwabashije kuza kunsura muri iyi nzu yanjye nshya. Murakaza neza mwese. Ndabasaba kunkurikira kugira ngo mbereke inzu yanjye.  

Iyi nzu ifite ibyumba bine byo kuryamamo, igikoni, urwiyuhagiriro n’imisarane ibiri, aho abakozi barara, icyumba cyo kubikamo ibintu. Ahangaha tugeze ni mu cyumba cy’abana. Murabona ko hari ibikinisho byinshi by’abana. Ahangaha ni mu cyumba cy’ abashyitsi. Iki cyumba ni

Passage Translation

Mugisha is showing his new house to his friends.  Then, buy few items which he needs.

Hello to everyone. You did well to have come see me in my new house. Thus, let me show you my house. Just follow me. This house has four bed rooms, and a kitchen, bathroom, two toilets, boys quarter, store room. Now we are obviously in children’s room as you can see many toys. Now here is the room provided for guests. Finally this is the dinning room. So this is the house I’ve acquired recently. I would like to buy some items we need. These include: a bed and bedsheets, four hungers, two stools to use in the kitchen and a mirror.

 

Bwenge’s monologue:

In the youth competition which took place in Kigali toward the end of September this year, I was asked to explain the Rwandan family relationships. I based my explanation on the following illustration:

My father is Kabango whose brothers and sister are, respectively, Kabenga, Sayinzoga and Muhimakazi who is Nyiraneza’s mother. My name is Bwenge and my wife’s name is Murorunkwere who is Kabenga’s sister.  Our daughter’s name is Mukamana who is married to Boyi. My father is the son of Murima son of Gumiriza and Kankera.

 

Relationships which can be established are the following:

  1. Muhimakazi is Kabango, Kabenga, and Sayizoga’s sister.
  2. Kabango is the older brother of Kabenga and Sayinzoga.
  3. Then Kabenga and Sayinzoga are Kabango’s younger brothers.
  4. I, Bwenge, am Kabango’s son and Murorunkwere’s husband.
  5. Kabango is Murorunkwere’s father-in-law.
  6. Muhimakazi is Bwenge’s untie (father’s sister).
  7. Kabenga and Sayinzogsa are Bwenge’s uncles (father’s brothers).
  8. Nyiraneza is Bwenge’s cousin.
  9. Kabango, Kabenga and Sayinzoga are Nyiraneza’s uncles.
  10. Nyiraneza is Kabango, Kabenga and Sayinzoga’s niece.
  11. I, Bwenge, am Murorunkwere’s husband and Karega’s brother-in-law.
  12. Karega is Murorunkwere’s brother.
  13. Murorunkwere is Kabango’s daughter-in-law.
  14. Murorunkwere ni nyina wa Mukamana.
  15. Bwenge ndi se wa Mukamana.
