Cultural Notes: Asking and giving direction

Note
Cultural Notes

In Rwandan culture, people give directions on the basis of specific references such as hills, brooks, rivers, Lakes and administrative areas or chief’s residence. Generally, if you ask someone for a direction, he would take you (if it is not too far)  to where you want to go. Or he would request one of his children to take you there. However, when you ask how far is to the destination, they will tell you that it is not far. They say: "si kure rwose" (It is not far at all) because they don't want to discourage you.
