Mu Kinyarwanda umwaka umwe ugizwe n’amezi cumi n’abiri afite amazina yihariye bwite nk’uko agaragazwa hepfo aha. Kandi urimo ibyumweru mirongwitanu na bibiri.  Ndetse urimo n’iminsi maganatatu na mirongwitandatu n’itanu.

Nanone ukwezi kumwe kurimo iminsi mirongwitatu, uretse ukwezi kwa kabiri (Gashyantare) gufite iminsi makumyabiri n’umunani cyangwa makumyabiri n’icyenda. Hari ibyumweru bine mu kwezi.  

In Kinyarwanda there are twelve months in a year. Each month has a name with a particular meaning as shown in this unit. A year is also made of fifty-two weeks and three hundred and sixty-five days.

In one month, there are thirty days and four weeks, with the exception of February which has twenty-eight or twenty nine days.
